Chocolate Fondue
Chocolate Dipping Adventure from Hotel Chocolat
For a dinner party, this is a fun and high quality dessert from
Hotel Chocolat. As a gift for a real chocolate lover, this is the business Smile

For some reason, the Hotel Chocolat catalogue keeps arriving at our house, and finding its way to our six year old. He was very keen to try the 'Chocolate Dipping Adventure' chocolate fondue kit, so one day, when my husband was due to come back after a few days working away, I thought it was time we all had a special treat together Smile.

The kids were very excited when I showed them the box (and I'd been looking forward to it all afternoon too, since buying it on my lunch break from work!) I chose the bigger box, with four types of chocolate in deceptively dainty-looking bowls for melting: white, dark, caramel and milk chocolate.

There were also little packets of sesame wafers, breadsticks, gianduja and fudge squares, chocolate coated brazil nuts, marshmallows and Florentines for dipping into the melted chocolate.

The box was beautifully presented, in stylish black and white, with six delicate Asian style bamboo tongs for holding the various little dipping things.

The dips were very quick and easy to prepare: only a couple of minutes in the microwave.

Some of the surprise hits were:

  • Gianduja (gorgeous hazelnut squares a bit like fudge and a bit like those GuyLian seashells) dipped in white chocolate.
  • Florentines dipped in caramel chocolate or milk chocolate
  • Fudge dipped in caramel chocolate
  • Breadsticks dipped in dark chocolate (a bit like those Japanese 'Pocky' chocolate sticks)
  • Teaspoons dipped in milk chocolate (ok not such a surprise there!)

I've always liked a chocolate fondue, but this one is in a league of its own. The quality is gorgeously smooth, rich, and beautifully presented, while the quantity of food goes a surprisingly long way. The one I had was for 4-6 people, but I'd guess it's more like 8-10 (though only six would have the tongs).

At £28, it's something for a special occasion, but having spent that, it is more than special enough to add to that occasion. I would personally get it again, and feel happy about serving this as a party dessert that would be popular and not as stressful as cooking!

All in all, I'd definitely recommend it, either as a fun and sociable special dessert for your guests at a dinner party, or as a very impressive looking Mother's Day gift for sharing among the family. As a gift for a chocolate lover, this is the business Smile
