The 'snap test'? No thank you!
Digg!
Poor Willie of the wonky chocolate factory fame! He'd made this gorgeous looking truffly Cloud Forest Chocolate Cake , which you'd think would guarantee instant popularity at any social gathering. But when the chocolate connoisseurs took their seats at the round table, it became apparent that other priorities took place in the serious business of chocolate evaluation...

They took out a series of high quality chocolate bars, all of which looked like the extremely high cocoa kind. They sniffed the bars, they admired their sheen, and then they tried the 'snap test'.

Now I'm all for a beautiful sheen, and of course any food has got to smell nice. But I don't like my chocolate to snap. I like it to break apart quietly into perfect sized chunks. And I may be burning my bridges with the connoisseurs here, but along with the majority, I prefer milk chocolate (and truffle cakes!)

Co op fairtrade milk chocolate
Quiet chocolate from the Co-op
Here's my pick of the moment: the small bar of Co-op own brand milk chocolate. It's only 28% cocoa, but it's very chocolatey, breaks into perfect sized chunks and melts deliciously when you eat it. And, like all the Co-op's own brand chocolate, it's Fairtrade , which has to be good :)

White Chocolate: Is there any point to it?
