A chocolate factory at all costs?
Digg!
Is it just me, or was this week's 'Willy's Wonky Chocolate Factory ' a bit more controversial than usual?

I'm not talking about 15th century Aztec drinks (an interesting but unlikely choice!), or the connoisseur chocolate purists (more later) - what really shocked me was the bailiffs.

I've heard of big corporations that have blatant non-payment policies for small contractors, or deliberately drive their suppliers out of business. I've also got a nasty upstairs neighbour who refuses to pay for damage to our flat and tries to intimidate us, leading us to consider the court and bailiffs route ourselves.

So surely, to send the bailiffs in, people have to get a court judgement first, which means there's plenty of warning... Meanwhile Willie and his family are living in a massive house, driving a very nice car, cooking on an Aga and having friends round for dinner parties... and his creditors have to send the bailiffs in.  Couldn't they come to a better arrangement? Perhaps it's a different system for the amount of money they've borrowed, but this makes it look like it's everyone else that's paying for someone's obsession. Of course, it is a TV show, and we don't see everything.

Even if those things were all borrowed for the TV show, why go on TV and tell the world you've had the bailiffs round?? Will we see them next on 'Bank of Mum and Dad'? Or could it be what I would personally love to see: a special feature combining this show with a BBC favourite, Dragons' Den . I would love to see the Dragons' commentary as the chocolate factory comes through this scary start to become a roaring success.

Sure, I'd like that lifestyle for my family too, and I can see their point of view: they don't want to give up their family home, or lose their business when it's ready to launch. But I think in their position we'd be living at the factory in a caravan.

I guess borrowing huge amounts of money to start a business leads you into a whole new world where once you've passed a certain point the business just has to take off to make the money back. That has to be the answer, because starting out in business as a non-payer just wouldn't be logical. They also don't seem like that kind of people.

It's the last episode this Sunday, and I doubt if they'd be showing this if it all ends in disaster. So fingers crossed for Willie and Tania and their crazy rollercoaster ride - let's hope they can pull it off and the whole thing turns out well.

White Chocolate: Is there any point to it?
